Cochise County supervisor Tom Crosby is asking the public for help with his legal fees. The move comes less than a week after it was revealed Crosby was subpoenaed by a grand jury according to reporting from Vote Beat.
Crosby confirmed with AZPM Monday that he set up the fundraiser on the online platform GiveSendGo with the goal of raising $100,000 dollars to cover legal fees.
The supervisor wrote on the fundraiser that if he is indicted by the grand jury, he expects to “go to trial, and be stuck with tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars of court costs and legal fees.”
As of Monday afternoon, Crosby has raised $847.
The Arizona Attorney General's office has declined to answer questions about the grand jury subpoena, a spokesperson wrote in an email to AZPM that Arizona law prohibits the office from speaking about grand jury proceedings.
Crosby was the only Cochise County supervisor who did not vote to certify the 2022 election. He was absent from the court-ordered emergency meeting where then-board Chair Ann English and current Chair Peggy Judd voted to certify the results.
Arizona’s Attorney General has also previously cautioned Crosby’s conduct in regard to potential open meeting law violations.
