Congressional Republicans calling for changes to amendment that guarantees citizenship.
Congressional Republicans are mounting a new effort to alter the 14th amendment. South Carolina Republican Lindsay Graham says he plans to introduce a constitutional amendment to restrict the policy of birthright citizenship. The proposed amendment would declare children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants to be, like their parents, illegal.
The issue is causing controversy, even among Republicans. But Bob Westerman, Chairman of the Pima County Republican Party, says the idea is worth looking into. His counterpart, Jeff Rogers of the Pima County Democratic Party, says the Republicans could lose claim to one of their proudest legacies.
