The Arizona Board of Regents has appointed about 27 campus, business and community leaders to serve on its presidential search advisory committee.
The committee will review prospective candidates for the UA’s top post and provide input on who should be invited for interviews with the full Board of Regents.
Tony Penn, president and CEO of the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, said he is honored to have been asked to serve on the committee.
"The University of Arizona is a gem within the Tucson community, so important to the economic vitality of our community," he said. "That’s one of the reasons that I chose to be part of this organization that will do the very important job of helping to select the next president."
Current UA president Ann Weaver Hart announced this past summer that she would not ask for an extension on her contract when it expires in 2018. Officials have said a new president will likely be in place before that date.
