So far, it's difficult to define the most important issue of the 2014 Southern Arizona congressional campaigns, but two candidates in Congressional District 2 are out with military-themed ads today.
Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Ron Barber's ad focuses on his efforts to keep the A-10 aircraft funded and flying. It was targeted for elimination earlier this year in the Department of Defense's budget, and Barber's ad features an air force retiree saying Barber led the fight to keep it funded, and therefore, flying out of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson.
"No one has worked harder to save the A-10 aircraft than Ron Barber," said Maureen Philips, a retired Air Force captain.
Republican challenger Martha McSally's ad features her story of fighting the U.S. Government, via a lawsuit, to overturn a policy that required American servicewomen to wear traditional headscarves when serving in a Muslim country.
"Martha McSally stood up against the Pentagon to change a policy demeaning to our servicewomen," the narrator said in the ad.
