Five of the six Republican candidates for governor faced off in a forum sponsored by Arizona Public Media and the League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson.
Immigration was a central theme. But Secretary of State Ken Bennett, Christine Jones, Frank Riggs, Scott Smith and Andrew Thomas also debated state economic recovery plans, education and healthcare issues.
State Treasurer Doug Ducey was unable to attend.
Early voting ballots were mailed this week.
The Republican gubernatorial primary election is Aug. 26, and whoever wins will face off against Democrat Fred DuVal in the November general election.
